Putting my camera gear in the back of my truck and leaving Chicago to get out in the country has helped keep me sane for the past 30 years or so. Usually I’ll have a final destination but no itinerary. Sometimes I’ll head up North and go across the Dakotas and other times I’ll head Southwest through Kansas and beyond. I get off the interstates and take secondary roads across the country, through small towns (I’ve probably eaten at 50 “Main Street Cafe’s), farmland, oil country, cattle country….wherever the roads take me.
This country is amazing and if you take the time to
stop and talk to people and really look at what’s around
you, you will be richly rewarded.
