In my studio I’ll have a background set up and ask them to get on it and look in the camera. Then it kind of just takes care of itself. Sometimes I’ll put a chair or stool on the background and they can do whatever with it…..sit, stand next to it, climb on it, jump off it…whatever they feel like.
When I’m with kids in an environment I like to have them forget about me and just do their thing…whatever it is. I keep focused on them and when it feels right I shoot.
I read a quote that said: “While we try to teach our children all about life, Our children teach us what life is all about.”
I’ve learned a lot about life photographing children.
